Samsung is a blatantly copycat right now, whereas Apple has managed to piece together promising parts from other companies to create what they call the iPhone. Makes it hard to root for any side, oh well... ;)

At these new lower price points that reads pretty UN-educated to me.

Whoopidedoo, a whole $50 off. They HAD to do that because of the lack of actually updating anything worthy on the device. One could argue that it isn't enough of a price cut the way competitors music players are priced.

Anyone with half a brain will avoid these 5th G Part 2 devices like the plague, unless they want to waste money that could be spent 4 months later on a widescreen model.

Should we set up the thread now for the people that rush out and buy this version of the iPod then get burned just after Christmas when the real new iPod comes out? They'll need someplace to vent, and it's usually all over these threads. It would be nice to condense it.

So what? They're already getting sued by Apple, so what's another lawsuit? Point is, contract breach or not, Samsung could cripple Apple's whole ecosystem within days by halting all processor shipments. Apple makes the vast majority on iDevices and this would kill Apple's whole economic model. And this doesn't even account for Samsungs components that go into their Macs. As a result, Apple would have no hardware to sell. They would dip into their treasure chest. It could be devastating to Apple.

and someone thinking again that Apple and Samsung didn't sign into a contract.

The crappy Intel IGP overshadows everything else (as far as what matters to me), but I'm sure people with more processor needs will benefit from this. It's a second computer to me, and I have zero need for anything faster, processor-wise.

    99% of these are in a huff self important 'tempest in a teapot' stories;
    its not required-nay not even helpful to be a fanboy to point this out-just 2 good eyes and a brain;
    Alway been complainers, always will be;
If the rules are clearly spelled out and they dont follow them-then they shouldnt be crybabies in public
    simple
    CAREFULLY read APPLEs developers rules
    follow them
    dont try to breach them

Amen! You are on the dot! Everyone (including developers) complain about their app not getting approved for one reason or another, and yet it's always because they breached the Developers Guide for the App Store. Just ******** get a printer and print the damn pdf out. Then, step two, READ it. Then, before you go and submit the app, use it yourself and see if it follows the guidelines.

It's like high school, when the teacher gives you a RUBRIC to FOLLOW, when you FAIL, it's because you didn't follow it. So shut up, or nut up. And build a better app. Hopefully one that doesn't say "that's what she says".

I can't take any more of this. I've eaten all of my fingernails and I'm starting to gaze longingly at my toes.

It strikes me that many here are in need of this (http://www.nativeremedies.com/ocd-alternative-treatment.shtml?ovchn=GGL&ovcpn=Google+Main&ovcrn=ocd&ovtac=PPC&gclid=CInu3uDyiocCFTFBDgodWFkE6A)

Yes, dizastor, there is a Steven Jobs. He exists as certainly as MacBook and Mac Pro and iPod exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy! It would be as dreary as if there were only Bill$. There would be no OS X then, no QuickTime, no iTunes to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in WMA and RealPlayer.

So take heart that to you good things shall come.

    With apologies to Francis Church.

Compare Core Duo vs. AMD. At least until someone does a Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo benchmark.

hmm, so it looks like the core duo is roughly similar to the athlon 64 x2 2.0Ghz.

Soo... the 2.16 Yonah is around 1.86Ghz Core 2 Duo speed. Kind of figures, considering Merom is supposed to come in ~30% faster.

Not that great, but not that bad either.

Honestly the term "app" didn't even exist 5 years ago. And yeah, it's super generic.

I support microsoft on this one, guys.

I keep hearing this...but yes it did. It was used occasionally for Windows Mobile apps, BlackBerry apps, and more. I just checked the internet wayback machine and found at handango.com several "apps" mentioned. Here is one "From business and personal productivity software to travel apps and games, we have the best mobile downloads to fit every interest."

The point is that its been used for quite a long time. Not as often back then as it is now, but it was used.

I'm all for protecting the environment, but sometimes it gets out of hand. Greenpeace should be there, but it is evident that Apple is already working on being more environmentally friendly. Greenpeace should have been kicked out for violating their contract.

    +1 for Apple

    Yep!

It's like those audiophiles who argue endlessly about if gold plated or silver plated speaker wire sounds better.

true, but there is a parralel could be drawn between audiophiles and mac "zealots".

and its fiber optic vs copper plated. its the rca connectors taht would be gold or silver plated, and yes, gold sounds better, transfers signal better.

    my two cents :)

thought about doing that. or maybe a trade + cash for and "old" macbook. something that would hold be back to do bare necessities, save enough money for .........
maybe a high end imac. oh joy.

..nah screw it. i'll just stick with my mid-2010

I got a 21' iMac recently at work, it does everything I need flawlessly. While it's nice to have upgrades, I don't actually need this one.

Good luck tracking my actual identity down. And also good luck getting anything you dug up admitted in court, because there is absolutely nothing legal about introducing any evidence of my identity you found by tying this account back to my IP/ISP without a warrant.

you just admitted that what you are doing is wrong.

This is interesting. So the frequency difference of 2.16 to 2.66 is 23% yet the MacPro is only 20-30% faster? So clock for clock, the iMac would be between 7% slower and 3% FASTER than the MacPro!

There is no chance in hell there'll be a Conroe system for some time. This is also the reason the Mac Pros are all quads, a duo would be just as fast for all but the 0.001% of people that do stuff that fully utilizes the quad.

I don't see why people here are saying USB3 won't go anywhere. Portable hard drives are already using it =\

I think it will be just as big as USB2 was. Why wouldn't it? I would be surprised if all the PC vendors shipped machines with TB, if history is any indication. Far more Windows PC's were shipped with USB2 than FW. That may change this time around with TB but I doubt it.

Not sure if anyone will read my post after 8 pages...
    But, sheesh!
Why all the excitement at all? I would never ever even considering paying any money for something like that (and I consider myself to be insanely rich).
    $10. Or more.
For the privilege of downloading a DRMed-through-the nose file.
Which you don't get to "own" in the same sense as you would own a disk (and you also get nice cover art with the disk!).
For all this money, you don't even get the benefit of being able to redownload the said DRMed file in case your har drive crashes... No sir! Even though iTMS keeps record of everuthing you buy, to download your stuff again, you will need to pay again.
Basically, the content providers try to milk you twice. They want that DRMed download to be treated as a physical object for certain purposes, and a licensed piece of intellectual property for the other purposes.
And everyone's favorite company, Apple, is complicit in this big scam.
Yes, I do think iTMS is a big scam - and I will not ever spend a cent there.
You can flame my post all you want, but this is the hard truth.
All of those DRMed services suck because they do not provide the extra value for me to even consider to buy into all this locked in crap.
And, yes, I do have a video iPod.
I prefer to fill it up on AllOfMP3.com, or by ripping DVDs.

Sandy Bridge Xeon's are due in November.

I wouldn't be surprised if the iMac and new Mac mini are the replacement for the Mac Pro.

With Thunderbolt, you will be able to connect the new iMac or Mac mini of them to Fibre Channel arrays, have three displays or use external PCI chassis for existing PCIe cards. iMac CPU performance with the desktop Sandy Bridge CPUs will exceed most Mac Pro configurations. The new iMac's ability to use 32GB of RAM matches the Mac Pro too. You can configure the iMac using SSDs for less than the price of the Mac Pro too.

By the time November comes around, Thunderbolt may cause the death of the Mac Pro.

I've been thinking something similar to this since the initial Lightpeak rumors. External is the way to go.

However, that won't solve the problem of lacking workstation class video, processors and things like ECC RAM.

LOL even the clock icon look the same, that's just cheap copying.

10:10 has been the primary way to show time on a static clock and watches for decades. The 10:10 position of the hands is used to highlight the logo which is usually located below the "12".

I wonder where Apple got the idea from?

"I'd hardly call a [url=http://www.macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/8356/95% drop in profits "doing better than ever."

Despite MP3 players that offered more, Creative was on a downward spiral. Now they become a sheep following the iPod shepherd and Apple wins the battle.

First, Creative did not have a drop of 85% in profits.

Second, Creative makes a lot more than mp3 players. They were not going anywhere with mp3 players.

3rd, they are a very durable company, have servived many ups and downs in the computer industry and are a very efficiently run company out of Singapore.

Yes it is a deal breaker. I actually spend quite a bit of time in bed after lights out surfing and reading, keeping up with stuff (I am doing it at this moment) with the brightness at the lowest level +1 to not disturb my wife, and its definitely not enough to see the keyboard.
    ...

If it is absolutely deal breaker for you then you might look at Glowing fluorescent keyboard stickers (http://www.amazon.com/Glowing-fluorescent-English-keyboard-stickers/dp/B004CEN1VU) ...
I'd think it's not nearly as good as Apple's backlight (and you can't ramp it up, or turn it off )

For me it would be nice to have KB backlight, but not a big deal
