So, maybe i'm just crazy or something but i really want to try this. I've been waiting to get a Apple laptop some time now and i think this would be a great intoduction to OSX.
And now somebody is probably thinking im going to do this the illegal way.. But NO, several of my friends run OSX so no problem in getting OSX.
I just need help with the install and stuff, so hoped someone else was lose minded enough to help...
First off i have....
P4 (Northwood) 2.66Ghz, 533Mhz FSB, stepping 7 revision c1
Im not sure but think it supports: PAE, SSE, SSE2, MMX
So what build am i to use, so far as i can see it should be 10.4.6 or 10.4.5???

UK prices have not changed still �529 for the 20" and �779 for 23", i'm ready to buy a new Mac Pro 2.66 & a Cinema Display but not if the UK prices dont drop.

I can certainly vouch for the sentiment expressed that people out there like the iTunes application without regard to how they have obtained their music. I have lots of music on my computers that I have accumulated over many years; and of all the media players I've used over the years, iTunes is without a doubt the nicest and best of the lot.
However, when it comes to the task of extracting audio from CDs and then encoding them as MP3s, I still prefer Audion. I like the specific controls it gives me. Also, the cost of the user interface experience in Audion for that particular set of tasks does not exceed the benefits of having used the program.
I fully understand someone's desire to protect the means of their own financial income. Clearly, the general public's acquisition of music or movies "for free" does not contribute to the artist's income from his/her creative efforts. However, I have two basic issues with present models (both the traditional "brick-n-mortar" as well as the digital DRM'd ones):
1. I feel the labels are by-and-large ripping off artists. Yes, I fully understand that label companies have much more invested in the business of making music than any single band or artist does; however that doesn't entitle them to make a king's randsom from each CD or DVD and pay the tiniest fraction of those monies to the artist. Due to my personal objections to this, I refuse to be party to this practice.
2. I object to having my usage rights in any way restricted. I do not like to be hemmed in (even in principle). I have not and never will sign any kind of license agreement (figuratively or literally) just for the benefit of possessing entertainment content.
A separate issue I have (which only applies to having to buy an entire CD at once instead of individual tracks) is that it's well known that most CDs have only a few good tracks on them; the remaining ones being largely "filler". I'm not saying there aren't ANY CDs out there where all the tracks are good. However most of the ones I've heard over the years have maybe 2-4 good tracks, and the rest are garbage.
The following is, admittedly, a bit off-topic, but it is pertinant to the subject at hand (that is, the licensing issue). It really gets me that you have the RIAA and ASCAP/BMI going after businesses which have music playing in their shop environment, especially when the music in question is NOT a live performance nor intented as a means of deriving additional income. And the crux of that issue, for me, is that the restaurants (and offices in many cases) have never signed any kind of licensing agreement with anyone (and moreover ASCAP/BMI and the RIAA try to turn this into a criminal issue when clearly it should more properly be tried as a civil issue -- on which I feel is baseless and that they should be laughed out of court over).

I'm sorry but most people (I'd say 99.9%) can't hear the difference between a CD and a 128kbps AAC file.
Heck, we got people still using 128kbps MP3 for crying out loud. If they heard any difference (or if it really sounded like crap) we'd see them using 256kbps MP3 instead. Granted, the encoder makes a huge difference, but most files you see on P2P networks are 128kbps.
128 M4A (on my system) cuts the top and bottom out and leaves the middle range intact. Maybe it�s my Sennheiser setup or something but 128 actively alters electronic music, rap and nu metal/rapcore. If you only listen to iTunes you�re in for a shock if you go to a concert.
I think M4A was designed for pop pop pop music :)

You might well be right, but good luck trying to explain anything novel and technical to the police if it doesn't involve war-driving or hasn't been featured in the tabloids.
With the best will in the world, it may also be hard for them to accept your word for it in this matter without independent certified experts or a pre-existing writeup in their manual.
Wait 10 years, then try again, and you'll have a new generation of young coppers who all played with xbox when they were kids and will understand you perfectly.
The guy working on my case actually understands most of what I am telling him. He knows quite a bit about networking and how a wireless network works. I did have to explain to one officer that an IP address on a wireless network was not a physical location. I think she thought it was an exact location of where a device was located.
Well $1000 is grand larceny. Thats not to be taken lightly. Do you know anybody in law enforcement where you live? I would take you're logs that you have made to the police. Ask to sit down with somebody and go over all the logs. Explain it to them like its 3rd grade math.
Also check the local pawn stores, ask if they have any 360s. First place to look when you get something stolen.

Whoever stole it is still going online with it although they have not played a game. I had the Monster HD cables for the system and they only work on an HD TV. Not again... The database in question is NOT used by Apple to actively track users. It's a local cache on your phone, sent to you from Apple. This database serves a legitimate purpose on your phone to improve the performance of location services.
The issue is that this DB can be used by others (not Apple) to gain in-site into your relative location over time. Technically I wouldn't even call this a 'bug' since it's working as designed. However it is a serious oversight on Apples part.

Maybe I'm being harsh, maybe what the world really needs is a 3 hour Zoomba infomercial app. Or an app extolling the benefits of the snuggie. And the excuse 'hey dude, I work in advertising' is not a good reason to criticise people who see this app for what it is, a pile of s***. It was a good message until they stated "Before you pick a phone, pick a network." That would be valid in an iPhone-less world. They would still be selling us phones based on a spinning CGI rendering of a phone's outer shell. "Look! A plastic candy bar! You like candy, don't you? Then you'll love our rectangular phone! Apple changed the game. The device should now be the focus. The service should be an afterthought in the background.
No the add is right. To many people drool over apple so they go with ATT. If you picked AT&T for the iPhone and knew the service was spotty in your area you loose all right to complain about it.
The smart people out there first pick a network that offers them the price they want and the coverage. Then your worry about what phone to get. The iPhone is not game changing and it sure as hell is not THAT much better any more with all the other phones hitting the market.
As for the add that was the exact reason why I left them. Verizon had crappy service out in Lubbock Texas and lied about them moving there network out there. They told us 6 months and that 6 months claim turn was not filled 4 years later of course I left at the end of the first year when my contract was up. I switch to AT&T because service was great there and in Houston so I choose them. I choose a network that works were I lived and spend my time.

I have lived in 4 different rural markets and regularly travel between them. Currently, in NC, Verizon is everywhere since they bought out a couple providers like Rural Cellular and I forget the other one.
When I left Verizon, they had full bar 3G coverage at my house. They had just upgraded about 3 months before I went with an iPhone. With AT&T, I need to drive almost 20 miles to even find 3G coverage.
With Verizon, I had a Palm Treo 700 and it was very rare to see even the analog signal at all.
If Apple would make the iPhone for Verizon, i'd switch back in a blink, even if I had to pay early termination, it's that bad. I typically lose between 20-40% of my calls. There is several dead zones too, that I can't even drive down without losing it.
Well sorry you have no right to complain your dropped calls. You CHOOSE to go with AT&T for the iPhone knowing these problems are in your area. You ACCEPTED that as part of the problem. I recommend you go back to Verizon as soon as your contract is up.

Depends what you call an OS. In micro-computer parlance Finder is very much a File Manager, same as Nautilus, Dolphin, Norton Commander (or the Midnight Commander clone), ROX-Filer, Windows Explorer, DOSShell etc just to name a few.
It does very little to "operate" the system. It simply provides a user with a UI to manipulate the files found on a filesystem. Of course, an OS doesn't even need a filesystem per say as not all OSes use the file metaphor for storage.
The OS part of the any modern OS is all contained in the kernel, which can usually operate the system without any kind of assistance from userspace. Finder is a userspace app. You could replace it with any other File Manager and still achieve the same basic functionality.
