The ipod and iphone have two different shapes with the iphone being more rectangular. No matter what type of case you get, it's going to conform to the shape of the device it's protecting. If you're looking for something more "bulky", I guess go with something like a hard plastic type case.

As the title says my mother has an original iPad and her iPad is at 3.2.1 or whatever 3.2 or something. Anyways, my question is where can I get the 4.2.1 software for the iPad. If I restore in iTunes right now I will get 4.3. I dont want that. I want 4.2.1! Any way to do that? She is interested in jailbreaking her pad! Thanks in advance...

As mentioned on previous post, you need to have your SHSHs saved if you want to installed anything else than the current firmware released by Apple, (currently 4.3). The windows where Apple was signing those SHSHs for 4.2.1 have already been closed (so unless somehow you got your SHSHs saved by tiny Umbrella or Cydia before) your only option is to upgrade to 4.3 or wait out for a Jailbreak tool.

Well, it can survive a hard fall of about 4 feet, I know that for sure. I own a G3 iBook without wireless (I'm broke) so I always have a 100 foot ethernet cord trailing behind me. Somehow, as I was walking from one room to another, I got tangled up in it, did a funny little twirly-dance, practically threw the iBook out of my way (if I would have landed on it there would surely be no chance of survival) and fell to the ground face first (ouch). The iBook landed hard on its left side. It was powered on, as a matter of fact I was browsing this forum. The sound it made on contact was horrible to say the least. But I'll be damned...so far not a thing wrong with it! When I say it took a hard hit I mean it REALLY took a hard hit. When I picked it up off the floor I wasn't breathing...it felt like my heart had stopped. The screen was black, all was quiet...for about 3 seconds. All of a sudden the screen lit up and it was right where I left it. I just had to reconnect to the internet and I was rolling again. Just wanted to share that with everyone, for I am blown away that the thing isn't dead. If a moose like me can't kill this iBook it is one hardy machine;)

Okay, so I've restored the drive to one partition, but now when i try to download the window support software I get an error message telling me "the support software is not available".
Surely it's not usually this difficult?
Oh - that's been a bug that's been around since they allowed for direct download. For some reason it simply doesn't work. You have to use the software located on your Snow Leopard disk. (Or disk 1 of the grey disks you got with your computer). You do this from the Windows side after you install XP. Note that the most recent models do not support XP because the component manufacturers didn't release drivers.

So true. Between my SLR, Samsung Focus, and Cannon SD780, I see no reason to keep my P&S, except that I couldn't sell it for much, and it's a quality camera in case I ever need to take a camera somewhere and don't want to use my cellphone? Do situations like that even exist?

no it works you won't damage your machine. I have a 2009 2.66 mini with 8gb ram it works fine for more then 16 months. your chance of machine damage is nil because it is 8gb ram.

Nice shot, would be nice if there were less clouds around the mountain as it covers a lot of it up and is distracting. Plus would use just a very slight increase in vibrancy just to make the colours pop a bit more. also slightly increase contrast through Levels... again only a touch. that's only from my personal point of view though. Looks like your drive may be failing.. I had this same problem with a 500gb Western Digital external hard drive about a year ago. It just didn't mount all of the sudden and then quit working all-together. You still should try to reformat the drive to see if that fixes the problem though.
If you need any of the files on the external drive you are going to have to use a utility such as Data Rescue 3 or something similar and then try to reformat the drive. If not, go ahead and click erase and try to reformat it and see if it works.

I still have a MOD library on my Amiga that I plan to port to my Mac sometime. Meanwhile they play in SoundTracker, I think it's called. I remember how impressed people were with my music library playing from my computer... in the early 90s :)
I liked playing with MED/OctaMED too. And Aegis Sonix.

lol, who said the page file hack is no longer needed? Like a fool, I believed that comment and did the upgrade and re-jailbreak.
Yes, you no longer need the page file hack....if you enjoy going back to watching your tabs reload because iOS shut down your browser to provide memory to another app.
Can somebody please tell me that the page file hack still works on 4.2.1.

I've been waiting for a change to the iBook line-up for a few months, which I know is kind of too soon...but the addition of a 12" DVD model isn't what I was waiting for... I guess it is cool for people to have options, but I was hoping for some better specs.

...and this for everyone who suffers from the silly gaudy childish look of OS X and misses the clean elegance of OS 9 (it not necessarily the extension conflicts and the lousy task-threading).
1) The Classic Platinum Theme (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15581). Installable on OS X using either unsanity.com's ShapeShifter or Duality 4
2) X-Assist (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10519) or ASM (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10410) to give you an application switching menu in your menubar.
3) FruitMenu (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12974) to give you back an editable / customizable Apple Menu, to give you a hierarchical menu-view of System Prefs so you don't have to launch the entire %&## System Preferences pane and then reach with your mouse a second time to invoke the specific PrefsPane you want. And to use as a launcher.
4) WindowShade X (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12243), to be able to minimize windows the classic Macintosh way, not like some Windows PC-wannabe. (Will also minimize-in-place to a small icon)
5) PullTab (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18606), to pry that damn Dock's filthy hands off the keystoke combo Command-Tab, thus freeing it up for apps with original rights to it, like FileMaker Pro.

Two choices: you can minimize it practically out of existence by pinning it to the left edge of your screen and then edit com.apple.dock.plist in a text editor, manually changing the tilesize parameter to 1, which will give you a Dock about the size of a pinhead in a place where you won't mouse-over on it very often by accident; or you can nuke it entirely. To nuke it entirely, first copy Dock.app from /System/Library/CoreServices and make that copy a startup item for every user account on your machine (towards the top of the list); then make an AppleScript consisting of tell application "Dock"; quit; end tell, save it as an application, and add that to your startup items (towards the end); then, finally, sudo rm the original Dock.app from within CoreServices. Hickory Dickory, baby :)
