You're welcome to audit my iPod. I guarantee you'll find nothing but legal tunes.

Given your stance, I wonder how you feel about public libraries offering whole collections of CDs for patrons to "borrow". I think we all know what (many, not all) people are really doing with those CDs when they borrow them. Shouldn't we be doing something about these public institutions turning a blind eye to what is essentially sanctioned piracy?

Put all of 'em on a Zune and "Squirt" 'em to borrowers?

Disappointing. I can't wait until year's end. I didn't buy the 4 because of the antenna plus lousy ATT coverage in my area. My iPhone 3GS is getting long in the tooth!

Steve is wrong about Google trying kill the iPhone. Apple may beat 'em to it!

I think it is a Great idea!!!

Apple will give Universal $1 from every iPod sold, since the iPod is used to store stolen Universal tracks.

In turn, Universal will give Apple $5 from every overpriced CD sold because they're only buying that CD so they can rip it into iTunes/iPod ecosystem.

what if i have no artists distributed by universal? if this takes effect then the ipod price will just go up and we all will be paying for it. what makes them think that i am even listening to any of their artists on my ipod and why should they get a cut if i dont >> or even if i do. ridiculous and better not happen.

I wouldn't be surprised. The quota explanation was given already, but they might also be holding back stock of the cheaper models in order to drive more sales of the higher end ones. "Oh, you wanted the 16 gig wifi model? Sorry, all sold out. But we do have this lovely 64 gig 3G version. If you really want the iPad 2, this is your big chance... it's only a little bit more..."

That happened to me, almost, when I bought the original iPad from Best Buy here in Canada on our launch day last year. The guy almost smirked when he said, sorry, the 16 gig ones were all sold out, but they had plenty of the 64 gig models. Luckily I persisted and he managed to find one more 16 gig, the last one! How lucky was that!

Hmm... I think they did that to me! I went in just a few hours after the iPad 2 went on sale... they said all they had left was the 64gb Verizon model. :-/

I have an iPad already... I was just asking to see how they were selling.

Same story here: I got the call today that despite being the first and only one on the reservation list at my store, they will not have any iPhones tomorrow.

I'm not surprised, but yeah... Radio Shack shouldn't have even bothered announcing anything.

again so that you might understand it:

The issue is that the data are stored unencrypted on your iPhone. So everyone can steal your phone and find out where you've been in the last year. If you think that is not an issue then your job is not very important and your private life is very boring.;)

It's not that Apple uses this info. It's about the fact that there is a gaping security hole that Apple did not fix.

But that's different from APPLE "EXPLOITING" you, isn't it? Perhaps a dictionary reference will help you "understand it"?

    Verb 1. exploit - use or manipulate to one's advantage;
    http://www.thefreedictionary.com/exploit

So, pray tell, what's Apple's advantage over you here?

Why do most iPhone threads have to turn into a Android vs iPhone thread?

Honestly, if the notification system and differences in multi-tasking is all you can hang your hat on... I'd say why change? Those are OS things that will and can change in iOS. But show me one Android based smart phone with a retina like display? Show me one that the manufacture will keep you up-to-date with the latest Android OS? Oh... that's right... they don't do they? Or not at least very fast because once a new OS is out, then it's up to Moto or HTC or whoever to update the new Android OS for your model of phone and hopefully it hasn't been put in the done pile yet because a newer model is out. Oh... one last thing... how's customer service over at the Moto store?

Okay... so there's my rebuttal to all that foolishness. Really... I don't care. If you like your Android phones fine. This is an Apple site and whining about "the outdated notification system" is old. Besides... this thread is about the iPhone 5 hardware... not the OS. I'm still working on the assumption we're going to hear about iOS5 at the WDC and there's a good chance iOS5 will one-up the game again with no change to the hardware.

Okay... I'm done playing fan boy and ranting. :p

A bit of selective hearing on the part of MacRumors with the quotes they chose to use. At first the video sounds great, dude is hyping what he saw from Apple. But later he gets called out from another speculating Apple is making a very significant change and distancing Final Cut from the real 'pro' users, dumbing it down, etc, and the guy who has seen it gets real quiet.. He is asked if he will update his editing studio's workflow to the new Final Cut, and he basically danced around the question, pleaded the 5th, and made it pretty clear that he is holding back some reservations about how the industry will adapt to the changes.

Personally I'm very interested to see what they do, I'm sure it will have huge improvements on real time rendering and performance, sounds like the whole thing is being rewritten. But it does worry me that the program could become more for mass audience and no longer the pro application it has been for the past decade.

A hammer is a hammer, the only significant difference between pro use and amature is how you swing it. Sometimes the pros get a little full of themselves and don't realize that tools are just there to express your imagination.

These would be the very same Tabs I see pallets of at Costco, while everyone else is sold out of iPad 2s. Got it.

The gap between Mac mini/iMac and PowerMac is simply too large for many people.

You could even take it a step further and say that the gap between the Mac mini and the (rumored) Mac Pro is too large. Why exclude the iMac? Well, for the consumer with a nice 20" LCD on his/her desk, the iMac is simply not an option.

Give us a Conroe-based tower, please. They could even keep the same basic case design across the board. Call the upper end ones "Mac Pro Extreme" or something. (I like the idea of offering a black anodized aluminum case to differentiate between Conroe- and Woodcrest-based systems.)

Is Europe not a way bigger mobile phone market than the US anyway. I don't see why any technology company would alienate a huge sector of its market in this way. It will definitely be released in Europe too.

It will not be a flip phone, or a slide phone or any of those stupid ass gimmicky phones you use over there. It will be just a nano derivative I would say. It will be GSM, it will be quad band.
    And coin-operated.

Good lord. Whatever happened to simplicity? It looked like a three ring circus up there today.

Now come on. Time machine? With a picture of outer space and stars? This looks so gimmicky. They are getting to be like Microsoft and just adding new features instead of making things easier and streamlined. Why not just improve the Backup program that comes with .Mac or include it for free? Do we really need another interface? To me it looks like form over function.

Not very innovative so-far. The Intel change took the OS's soul and the inspiration. Very disappointing. Mail, completely overloaded, like MS office.

No mentioning of resolution independent GUI, etc. There are a couple of UNIX OS's out there that are more innovative.

All in all, Apple seems on the wrong track.

Get off your high horse already, if you disagree just keep it to yourself. Not like your arrogant rants contributed anything either.

is it just me, or are these forums getting really ugly over this MBP not already being in our hands thing. SPEED BUMP THIS! 64-BIT THAT! HDD REPLACEABLE THIS! SAME CASE THAT! i'm starting to feel like we are a pack of rabid animals in a cage. i want a new laptop too, i have an old 1GHz iBook G4...its three years or, so its showing its age...not to mention that I've been putting it off since the end of July beginning of August (missing out of the free iPod nano deal and whatever else about the Office and what not).

It's worth it to me to wait for Merom/Memrom/Moron, I can't buy a new laptop every year like some people. It's a future-proofing type of thing. you know?! :) :D

I don't like Adobe anymore.

They have become the Microsoft of the graphics world. See what having lots of money can do to you? Makes you cocky. That's one big reason I don't want Apple to gain much more market share. I want them to have just enough to keep them working hard... not so much to make them fat and lazy and greedy.

...The "tracking" is widely used by many apps. Perhaps we should all just wait and see the details before you jump on the "OMG I'm being tracked, and the sky is falling" wagon.

If you are really paranoid about it, delete the darn file and there...Done!

Wounded, Apple will go on strike and remove all GPS from future devices now. ;)

Oh yeah, well just wait until people find out iOS is a closed system and the Xoom uses Android which is open....

    oh nevermind :D

"Hey babe, I just relinked the kernal of my tablet." is a line that really doesn't work.

"My girl, pet this." (iFur app runs on iPad) Yup iPads get you laid.

It's simple: Apple is always behind hardware-wise because they like to priorize esthetics and appearance

Android phones are selling more than iPhone.

I've only bought the first iPad because there were no competitors at that time (and I hate netbooks), but now things are different. To be honest, A LOT different.

1st point: It's factually inaccurate to make your first statement, as evidenced by your last statement. Kind of funny, don't you think?

In your second statement, you are comparing all Android software-running phones to a single model/product line, the iPhone. The iPhone (each generation) has out sold any single phone model (generation) over it's life than that of any offered by any other hardware manufacturer.

Your comparison is like saying Toyota has sold more cars than Ford has sold F-150s. That may be true, but the F-150 is still the number one selling truck in the US, even though it does not outsell the sum total of all other trucks by all other manufacturers.

You should compare a single phone model, say Motorola Droid or HTC Incredible. You are simply talking software. Apple is primarily a hardware company that happens to make the software for its hardware. (yes, I know about FCP and other software) They do not license the iOS software to other manufacturers, so comparison to Google's OS and number of DIFFERENT phones it runs on is really irrelevant to whether any hardware manufacturer has had a more successful phone than the iPhone.

I remember when the ipad 2 was announced. A samsung CEO said "we're going to have to rethink our copy of the ipad." Very innovative.
