Has anyone been able to find this kit in Canada yet, I very much want to get one? The Apple Canada website says not yet available. I called the local Apple Store today and they told me that they don't carry it, but the Apple guy did say that they wouldn't be told about it until the day it becomes available.

Which leaves the only concern left being clarify of calls.
I went on a drive on my lunch and received my first call through the TomTom kit today. What I can say is that the speaker clarity was good and the mic picked up my voice suprisingly good for the distance I had it from the driver's seat. I had it mounted on the windshield. However, I did find myself talking a bit louder than normal to ensure the mic would pick up everything, and it did. Throughout the conversation, the person I was talking on the phone with never asked me to repeat anything. I was able to carry on a conversation throughout my drive as I normally would in my car - hands free :p

I found myself constantly moving the volume switch up, but wasn't sure it was on its highest setting because it isn't a 'dial' type adjuster. Although the speaker was loud enough to hear, I wanted it a little louder. However, this may be because my car does not dampen road noise very well. I'm sure your sedan will be much quiter and the speaker volume will be adequate. The speaker quality is clear enough to hold a conversation.

For example, the cost to make an iPhone may be 200 dollars. It probably costs $1 for the final assembly (or by your calculation, $7 if the assembly is done in US). However, if you manufacture all the parts in US, it will cost $1400.
A major portion of these components were American made. In 2000, American EXPORTED more high tech components than it imported. Yep. I ordered mine last week and its not even shipping till the 18th. Many have said that that is the result of the end of the macbook + ipod promo. It could also be something else...

what are the odds that apple, in order to reinvent the mobile experience, has teamed with a voip chip maker etc. to provide mobile voice and video (ichat mobile) over IP?
this somehow makes more sense than co-branding a unit or "piggy backing" onto current carriers... then again, failure on this scale would be the biggest "jump the shark" moment in their history.

I don't believe this report. How hard could it be for RIM to acquire the 100,000 screens they can expect to sell? This is just an excuse for the delay for them to work out the software bugs. Sure Apple has a lot of factories going day and night to produce iPads. But the early reports were only in the 60% of manufacturing capacity. Maybe it is more, but it isn't like RIM needs to make one million of these devices a month. Seriously, 100,000 will be plenty for the first month of U.S. sales. Maybe if enterprises really get on board, then sales will ramp up. But businesses are going to run three months of tests before they role out the big blackberries for the staff.

My thoughts (as a developer):

I say new iPods at Paris, and maybe some software. It would be great if all Macs were Core 2 Generation before the Paris Expo.

Apple *have* patented the look of icons: http://www.edibleapple.com/apple-granted-eu-patents-on-24-ios-icon-designs/ and Samsung clearly infringes on them.
(I'm not sure if a similar, US patent exists.)

Anyways, according to this article: "The patent application was originally filed in September 2010 and also encapsulates designs pertaining to the reflective nature of icons in the iPad dock (wherein the reflection also describes the function of said icon/app).". There is nothing reflective about Samsung icons.

I seriously cant believe how some think Apple would just destroy itself by putting crappy chips for no reason. If they are going to put ARM in notebooks they have good reason for doing that, either they will be a better choice for the Air or maybe ARM has some serious power chips planned.

I'm thinking many people are going to be upset after WWDC because they didn't get what they wanted - there is too much expected here. WWDC is aimed at developers. The only reason they would roll out an iPod now instead of the norm of September is because they are putting games on it or making it a Ulta-portable. To rephrase it, there will be no iPod update at WWDC. New colors of tube socks? Maybe.
I agree with the other post about what is certain and what is not. However, I am not sure I see an update coming for the ACDs. They are hot, the Pro enclosure (G5 --> MacPro) is likely not to change, and they are selling well.
I think expecting Apple to dump everything they have been working on now is simply myopic. They will stagger releases as always, and no worries children, the Steve is a benevolent provider.

Just another perspective for those convinced that AV software is unnecessary on Macs: Consider that you are the IT Vice President for an organization. It�s your responsibility to see that your company is safe. Safety incorporates many functions: a virus causing machines to crash, networks slowing down so badly that work stops, secure corporate data being stolen, or a piece of keystroke capturing software finding its way onto the President�s assistant�s computer.
Put yourself in this IT VP�s shoes for a bit. At the extreme, it might cause you to consider disabling every port on every computer and ask people to go back to sneaker nets with each computer scanning every file on every flash drive. Remember, it�s your career that�s at stake if the company suffers from one or more of the kinds of things mentioned above.
In fact, I�ve heard that there have been cases of healthcare professionals, including physicians, who are in prison for violating HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), which every healthcare facility in the US has been dealing with for a decade.
The government as well as private industry must take cyber threats seriously.
I think the key is to find the best balance between absolute security and user convenience. AV software is one of the tools available to the people responsible to keep �the rest of us� safe.
For me personally, I run ClamAV occasionally on my home Macs, but I might look into Sophos. At the office all of the thousands of computers, including Macs, have Norton installed. There are probably other security functions about which I�m unaware, too.

The 17" has a larger enclosure space than the 15.4" of course, so, better heat control and more space to put components. Perhaps the 15.4" would just get too hot / consume too much power with the 17" D/L SD inside it.
Doesn't the 17" use a different battery - higher capacity - than the 15.4"?

I'm hoping with the next MBP update, they also tweak the enclosure to allow for an easily swappable HDD, like the macbook. It simply isn't fair that a lower end model gets a great feature like that and the higher end gets screwed. I would be sorely disappointed if this did not happen with the update.
Because of return policy issues, I will probably go ahead and get the 5400rpm drive. It seems like much less hassle to stay away from BTO systems if something goes wrong.MovieCutter told me that there is negligible difference in performance between the 5400 and 7200 high capacity dirves and that the 120GB 5400 is a better way to go - lower heat, higher capacity, lower power draw. I'm hoping the top models have a 160GB Seagate inside.
If there is no easy access HD bay in the new 17" 2.33GHz C2D MBP I will not buy one of these and opt for a 2GHz C2D MacBook when it ships or wait for the next 17" MBP revision. I feel so strongly about wanting this feature that I refuse to buy a mobile Mac without it.

It doesn't appear to be too good at dealing with Time Machine back ups (http://recoveringphysicist.com/17/did-sophos-free-a-v-for-mac-kill-my-time-machine-backups). Tread with caution.

I was at a local apple store and they are selling the tom tom car kit already. What a rip off, because you have to pay for the app seperate. I got the griffin car mount for $20 at frys and the navigon app, works great.
I got my car kit, and I really like. I don't know how someone can call it a rip-off if they haven't used it. It works great with Navigon. The TomTom app is still a joke.

This will definitely be the first iteration of the iPhone that I will pass on. It's certainly not much of an upgrade from the iPhone 4.

When they haven't priced for volume, their success has been more attenuated. Now this was regarding media and the iTunes store, but there's no reason cloud services couldn't be the same, particularly given how competitive this sphere will be and the fact that there's no real marketing benefit to "premium" data pricing (as opposed to premium laptop/notebook pricing where higher prices can contribute to a perception of higher quality).
