Basically - All hardware has to come up with new drivers - I did not see anything about Plug-in support. And I see no reason why Apple will release boxed copies. But maybe they will to placate us all. FCX is what I wanted Apple to do. Trash the old and make something new and modern. Unfortunately the Original Programer of FC is no longer with Apple so the old code was unusable. But when you do that you have to re-build the feature set from scratch.

Gift for my brother. He sold all of his games to Gamestop so that he could buy Fifa 10. He really wants Fifa 11 too, but I'm waiting to see if I can find it cheaper:

I think best buy still has fifa 11 for $35 you should check it out.... its a great game btw. You just have to get used to the passing from fifa 10

No, I don't think so.

I know what you mean, my small house keeps toasty just from the computers running. The problem is getting the heat moved from the computer room... thus a box fan in the door pushing in cool air at the bottom.
yeah i might have to invest in a fan. this is crazy in my place. the air on when it's 45 degrees outside!
Thanks, and sorry I just moved past you:D for now anyway...
on no, i'm glad your able to put up those numbers. i would if it wasn't for the heat in this little apartment

Judging by the ratings, I get the sensation that some of us here don't like disney movies. Anyhow, Apple's not really trying to break into any new markets with this, nor are they trying to be revolutionary. They already have an incredibly robust content distribution system, and it costs them next to nothing to host these movies on it. If people download them, great, if not, so what. But seriously, for the price, these mofos better be Hi-Def!

Many find two 17" LCDs more useful than one big LCD. Esp graphic artists, film composers, etc. They can have their tools/mixer open on one monitor, and the image or sequence open on another.
Or if someone already has a big LCD, it would be a good compliment to put a 17" alongside it.

I don't think we are even close in either of these threads. I suspect that 10.5.2 and/or the iPhone SDK are going to contain some huge surprises. Perhaps included in that are some of the Leopard "secret features" that were promised a year ago but took more time than expected.
Now, this would be fabulous!

What's stopping you from doing that now?
I know I have all of my iTMS video backed up to data DVDs...
I know I won't be spending $10-$15 for anything less than DVD quality though, so I hope there's either a rental model or at least 480p.
B
I do backup all of my ipod videos on DVD. I was talking in terms of rentals that so many people are interested in here. Apple would have to implement some sort of copy protection for people who simply want to rent for a few days, so the movies can't be backed up to DVD. Sort of like Divx DVD back in the day. You bought the movie for $5, then after 48 hours it was unusable.
This brings up another point. There are a lot of "hackers" out there who, I would think, wouldn't have a lot of difficulty breaking encryption or copy protection on the possible movie rentals from iTunes. I think that would be another reason Apple would avoid rentals.

I really wonder what the reasoning behind all this negativity is...
Well I can tell you why I'm dubious - we know that iOS has shown that full computer paradigms don't translate well to the tablet (e.g. iOS compared to the 'full Windows' tablet experience). I'm thinking that the description of this new feature sounds very clumsy, and it may illustrate that the reverse of my first statement is true: tablet interface conventions may not translate well to a 'normal' computer environment.

I know this is off topic. But you guys and gals have got to go download the new Bob Dylan Blues Music Video Ad for iTunes pre-selling his new album "Modern Times" (http://www.apple.com/ipod/ads/dylan/). It is incredible!
I think this is the best Ad Apple has ever delivered - bar none. I put it on single repeat in iTunes and it never gets old.

It has too seeing as Intel is pushing DRM protection into the physical CPU.
But the GPU still has to decode what was sent and put it on the screen, which is why I asked if the TB itself can do the encoding. If it can how much overhead will that add (again as it has to happen over the PCIe side)?
Or can you send graphics information over DP that still needs to be processed, ie raw frames?

If Apple wasn't satisfied with the number of units they were moving, and had a markup far above their (real) competitors, I would think Apple would lower it's prices, don't you? That would be the only way to make money if they weren't actually selling the monitors.Exactly that is why Apple needs a refresh to the prices. We both see eye-to-eye on the quality of their product and it's superiority. I'm just stating that their prices are stale and need a refresh. Something on the order of $499 (20"), $899 (23"), and $1699 (30").

I say no thanks. Optical storage is way too slow! Why should I pay $1000 to get a 33GB disc that is slow on accessing when I can spend WAY LESS and use another harddrive thats 300GB+ and rewritable, or buy a 100 pack of DVD-R's for $10? I for one dont see this HD-DVD / Bluray thing getting big anytime soon, and Im sure as hell not going to rebuy my DVD collection, higher res or no higher res, I mean hell... I dont even have an HD TV yet,too damn expensive!
Apple - wait on this one please. Just put superdrives in everything and leave the combo drive in the past.

Apple needs something between the horribly constrained MiniMac, and the preposterously huge ProMac.
A Conroe (64-bit, single-socket, dual-core) system would fit the bill....
Aiden,or others.
What do you think about the rumours that a single socket Conroe thanks to its superior memory handling effiency (~70%?) compared to Xeons DB-Dimms lousy (~25?) might crush a dual socket Xeon in memory intesive tasks, like photoshop.
Have you heard seen any data on that one, exept the specuatlion on Anandtech?
Any idea if the upcoming products (CS3 for example) might find a way to utilize the FB-Dims more efficiently, or is the problems so prevalent, that it cant be overcome with anything?
Because that might be the deathblow to the Pizza-Mac.
Apple definately wouldn want a cheaper/weaker product to equal or crush its workstations in any area. Let alone on one that is considered it is pride,DTP.
Anyone?

That is what i don't get, what is really going to be included in a wireless iPod? The only thing i could see is that it gets the ability to purchase music from iTunes or you stream internet radio or something. Also, the waste of wireless syncing to a computer. Am i missing something bigger?
I have argued that in many posts that Apple need to introduce an iPod with a phone - iPhone or whatever it will be called. Assuming Apple have one of those more or less ready to be released, then I can see a point in both BT and WiFi.
But wireless on a mp3 player??? That is beyond my understanding. Why not add a kitchen sink when there still at it?
My personal guess, based on how fast cellphones with mp3 capabilities have evolved during the past year or two, is that Apple will release the mythical "iPhone" within a year. If they don't, Apple will most certainly lose a big chunk of their mp3-player market share.
They just pulled it off their website a few minutes ago but it was a photo of the wireless iPod!
http://www.apple.com/ipodmobile
I saved a pic of it in my cache and posted for you to see!!!
It does iTunes and video and the screen is enormous!!
Full screen iChat messaging is availble with the built in iSight!
It is also in black!

I can't wait to get my hands on one of these, looks great for watching movies.
Hehehe...good one :D ;)

yes, this is true. but apple is not in the business to sell more computers. apple is in the business to turn profits.
tiffany's would sell more diamond rings if they cut the price in half.
BMW would sell more cars if they cut the price by 30%.
...but so what?
Exactly. Apple will stay in business as long as it's profitable; it's that simple.
It doesn't bother me that Apple has low single-digit marketshare and it doesn't necessarily bother Apple as long as they continue to make money.
And I don't know if a $500 - $600 loss leader Mac would guarantee an increase in desktop marketshare. (This is different to me than the loss leader that ITMS is). The only effect it would have would be to decrease profits.

What I mean is that I would get the $499 model but BTO it with a superdrive. A $549 model so to speak.
We'll see. If the low end becomes a dual 1.66 I'm getting one.You know what the difference in cost is between a Combo Drive and a Superdrive?
About $5
I am confused why you use the word IF? This report confirms it has already happened (http://www.hardmac.com/news/2006-08-31/#5869) - unless you think Apple made a mistake fulfilling his order for a 1.5GHz CS by putting a 1.66GHz CD BTO in a CS box? That is next to impossably unlikely.
All we need is one more report like above to corroborate this is a fact. I wonder how long before the rumor sites put it out as a fact.
WE HAVE CONFIRMATION (NOT):I posted this on the mini specs forum, but thought it would be needed here as well.
Are they already shipping then?
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2010Oops. It's the same reported source not confirmation.
They have obviously run out of their last shipment of Core Solo Yonahs and received their new supply of 1.66GHz CDs for that part of the mini assembly lines. I guess marketing is behind the curve on this one. Perhaps so as many Solo Units can get flushed off the shelves before they ADMIT THIS CHANGE. That wouold explain why Fry's is now ADVERTISING 1.5GHz Core Solo minis for $499. IE the buyers have been notified already and told to dump all the Core Solos ASAP since the replacement 1.66GHz Core Duos are in transit to the srores.

Great concept, I love it. But it was poorly executed. Who picked the music for this ad? It's terrible. And the voiceover is on the verge of creepy.
I miss old Apple ads. Their advertising is going downhill while their products keep getting better.

Did that not just happen ...
Likely:
Speed bump to one or more Mac lines
...
Less likely:
....
Major upgrade to Mac mini (video card upgrade) or MacBook Pro
New Displays
...
Unlikely:
...
Major upgrade to any line other than mini or MBP
...
:( How long ago were the MBPs updated? Because I'm looking to buy Jan/Feb and I'm not confident that the current spec is competitive. It at least needs a HD screen.
